10/1/2008 - Rangeview Miracle

Everyone,
I just had to let all of you know what has been going on with First Priority here in Aurora. We had our See You at the Pole Rally last Tuesday the 23rd of September. Our goal was to create excitement about the next morning when the kids meet at their flag poles to pray for their schools. We also kicked off campus clubs at three high schools (Cherokee Trails, Eaglecrest, and Smoky Hill). I then talked to all the other students that were there from other schools and told them what I needed from them to get clubs started at their school.
I have already heard back from a few different middle school students and their parents that have gone to their principal and asked to start First Priority clubs on their campus. I am in the process of getting classrooms for them and a school sponsor.
The next morning I went to a few different Flag poles at three different high schools to pray with our students, and to talk to the students their about First Priority on their campus. When I arrived at Rangeview High School, there were around 25 kids gathered around their flag pole praying for their school. Radu Pasca the youth pastor for Redeemer Baptist, which is located near Rangview, was there also. I have been trying to get him involved with First Priority for a few months now. He has been a little unsure if he could commit to it or not. As Dave Elloe(youth pastor of Trinity Church) walked up to the pole one of the students, Bethany is her name I would soon find out, asked the students to have a seat around the flag pole because she wanted to share something that has been on her heart. She started to give one of the best gospel presentations I have ever heard and started to challenge the students to stand up for what they believe in. She continued to say how everyone else in their school is standing for what they believed in and that as Christians we need to be standing for what we believe because we believe in the truth! After she sat down there was a quiet awkward moment, and the students did not know if they should respond to her or start praying again. Dave took the opportunity in to his hands and ask if there were any Christian clubs on campus. Nobody said anything so he started to talk about starting a First Priority club on campus at Rangeview. The girl next to Bethany stood up and said that she had tried to start a FP club but they lost their school sponsor and the club was now being held at her house. I stood up and introduced myself and told them that the night before we had started 3 clubs at high schools near by. I also said that the purpose of the clubs is to lead their friends on campus to Christ and that it would be better if we could do it on campus. I told them they just needed a teacher or counselor or any school staff member to do this. A girl to my left stood up and said her dad is a teacher and he might be willing to be the sponsor. I said great, but what I did not know is that while I was talking to the rest of them about going to their activities director and getting permission. The girl who said her dad was a teacher, Robyn had called her dad on her cell phone and now was behind me tapping me on the shoulder and asking me if I would talk to her Dad, Bob Bushman, a teacher at Rangeview. I said sure and I took the phone and introduced myself and told him what we were trying to do and asked him if we could use his room to have the First Priority club meeting. He said he would be willing to do that and wanted to know what day and time. I told Bob to hold on and I put the phone on my shoulder and asked the now 35 students there what time would they like to have their club and what day. After a few minutes of discussion they decided to have their club at 3:30 on Friday afternoons. That would not be the time I would have picked but I am slowly learning that my agenda is not always the same as God’s and this was defiantly a God thing so we rolled with it. I picked up the phone off of my shoulder and asked Bob if Fridays at 3:30 worked for him. He said that would be great and I asked his room number so I could tell the students and told him thank you very much and hung up the phone. I continued to tell the students there that now all they needed was permission from their activities director and they could start the club on Friday. One of the students stood up and said lets all go to our activities director together right now!! 25 of the students stood up and went into their school to ask permission to start First Priority in Rangeview. I was left standing there talking with Bethany, the girl who gave the gospel, and Amy, the girl who was trying to start First Priority in her house. Both Bethany and Amy had tears in their eyes because of what had just taken place, and were thanking me for being there and helping them get this started in their school. As I was thanking them and telling them that is was not me at all but God who had and is doing this the 25 students were all coming back and told us that their activities director had already approved the club! In 20 minutes they went from ground zero to having a bunch of fired up students, a classroom, a sponsor, and permission to have the club. Now all they needed was a campus coach. I turned around and looked at Radu. I could see that God was moving in his heart from the expression on his face, so I asked if he would be their campus coach and with out hesitation he blurted out YES!
God is moving here in our schools. I still need your support financially and prayerfully. Please continue to ask our God if you should support the next generation and help others to know Christ through First Priority
